People with Dementia form new memories at Let’s Dance
We know that people with dementia are often triggered by music they KNOW and recognize. At Let’s Dance we are fascinated that somehow individuals are engaged in the new music, remember to sing words, remember dance moves from last year and most of all they remember having a great time. Even though we introduce completely new music residents still somehow form memories and many memory care units remember us, even from more than a year prior. Cognitive residents love to hear where we have been since the last time we seen them and often we offer stories about National Parks – a favorite topic among the elderly. Visiting communities year after year builds relationships and we understand that! So at Let’s Dance we want to grow and offer to train other individuals in our techniques so that we can offer this profound program every month, consistently worldwide.
